Watch our Webinar: Research, AI, and University Admissions
Discover the highlights from Sapiente Education’s webinar with ERNon university admissions, AI, research and future careers.
Webinar Recap: Research, AI, and University Admissions
In today’s highly competitive AI-driven world, university admissions have become even more complicated than before. Students are now expected to push themselves beyond just having perfect grades. To help students better understand what leading universities and employers around the world are expecting and prepare accordingly, Sapiente Education, in partnership with ERN (Education Resources Network), recently hosted a free exclusive webinar.
As part of this webinar, we invited experts from university admissions, academic and research mentorship, and artificial intelligence. Our three highly distinguished speakers gave practical insights on how students can stand out by strengthening their academic profiles, prepare for university, and develop valuable skills for their future careers.
Why Grades Are No Longer Enough
The webinar began with Massimiliano (Max) Patacchiola, Founder and CEO of Sapiente Education, talking about some common misconceptions that students and parents have around admissions to universities.
Although having excellent grades are important, Max gave practical advice on why that is no longer enough for students applying to highly competitive universities like Harvard, MIT, Oxford, Cambridge etc.
One of the key messages from the session was how admissions team increasingly value:
- Intellectual curiosity
- Consistent academic engagement
- Commitment to projects outside academics, such as volunteering, research paper, etc.
- Ability to solve complex problems
- Evidence of independent thinking
- Importance of publishing a research paper
- Anatomy of publishing a research paper
Max further emphasised on the importance of publishing a research paper, conducting literature reviews, and importance of credible academic sources.
Understanding the UK University Admissions Landscape
The second session was delivered by Omer Mirza, CEO of ERN, where he provided valuable insights on how to navigate the UK university admissions process.
Having experience supporting students into universities in the UK and worldwide, Omer had explained: How to plan university admissions well in advance Understanding application timelines UK visa and accommodation processes
For students and parents who attended the webinar, this session provided a clearer understanding of the various tasks involved, such as accommodation, visa, etc apart from just applying to universities.
Preparing for Careers in an AI-Driven World
The final session of this webinar was an engaging session led by Nadeem Lone, Founder of Codesearch AI, who explored how AI is reshaping the world of recruitment, careers and future workplaces.
Nadeem emphasised the importance of embracing AI as a supporting tool while continuing to develop human soft skills.
He further explored concepts like:
- AI fluency as an essential future skill
- Importance of critical thinking
- Systems thinking and problem solving
- Clear communication and adaptability
- Building expertise to stay ahead in the chosen field
He further explained that although AI automates many tasks, employers will value individuals who can understand information, ask better questions, think creatively, and solve problems that technology cannot.
He encouraged students to build these skills early through meaningful projects, research experience, independent learning and taking initiatives.
Key Takeaways from the Webinar
Throughout the webinar, all our experts made one message very clear across all three sessions: success is no longer a measure of excellent grades alone.
Students who want to study in world-class universities and build a successful career, should focus more on:
- Building independent research skills
- Critical thinking
- Show evidence of long term academic commitment
- Take initiatives outside school
- Responsible use of artificial intelligence
